This is my son, Blake! He’s a sweet 2 years old, and I love him a great deal!
As a small congregation, Oasis does not have a flashy children’s ministry. In prior years, we’ve had a regular Sunday School ministry. That said, when we periodically get a large influx of kids (happens a few times a year), we’ll usually start up an impromptu Sunday School ministry.
On most Sunday’s, my wife and select members keep an eye on Blake, and a handful of other young children, during service as I’m playing on the piano, or preaching. Blake, being a typical toddler, is very curious. During worship services, you might observe him “assisting” me on the piano!
As you could likely guess, Blake can get a bit “antsy” during service. But that’s totally OK!
If you have kids, and are looking to visit Oasis, you may be concerned about your kids being disruptive. Don’t let this stop you from spending time with us! We can handle it!
Over the course of these 3+ decades of meeting together, God has matured our congregation to a point where minor distractions do not deter us from basking in the great presence of God! Even if a child offers an occasional scream, we’re able to keep going!
Additionally, considering the sad headlines about child abuse in certain corners of Christendom, we believe that church should be a place of POSITIVE experiences for a child.
In Mark 10, we read the following:
13 Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. 15 Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” 16 And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.
If Jesus wanted to bless the children, so should we. We don’t want to be in the business of rebuking parents or their children for the occasional outburst! We want to love them.
Of course, there are times where my wife has to take Blake out of the sanctuary, especially during temper tantrums. But we never make any parent or child feel bad just because a child acts like a child!
We love children! We want them to feel safe, comfortable, and loved at Oasis!
So come and visit us! Blake would love to meet your kids!
