About Oasis Christian Fellowship of Ithaca, NY (A brief history):
Oasis Christian Fellowship, “a church built by grace”, met for the first time as a congregation on Palm Sunday 1984. We passed a significant milestone with the erection of our permanent home at 808 S. Meadow St. in Ithaca, NY in 2005.
We continually rejoice in God’s goodness and the miracle that this building represents. There are numerous stories of God’s encouragement behind all the “brick and mortar.” These are stories of hope, discouragement, excitement, disappointment, joy, sadness, success, failure, and sacrifice. One constant remained through it all: God’s grace and faithfulness.
Having a church building of our own supports our ultimate goal of increased ministry to people. As a congregation we have a strong focus on study of the Bible, worship (music, dance, etc.), a strong prayer practice corporately and individually and journeying together in love and forgiveness. Our aim is to help people to become their best selves, the person God created them to be. We are a diverse congregation, open to people of all races and backgrounds, and ages. As the Scripture says, “the young and the old will go forth together in the dance”.
Our mission: Oasis Christian Fellowship is a diverse body of believers committed to prayer, worship, and the Holy Bible. We will extend the kingdom of God in the greater Ithaca area and beyond by:
~Allowing the invisible God visible expression
~Providing an atmosphere that releases the Holy Spirit
~Creatively communicating Christ
~Developing a servant’s heart
~Demonstrating love in action
~Pursuing growth in our relationship with God and others
~Encouraging people to find their divine destiny
~Supporting the body of Christ in Ithaca as appropriate.
If this resonates with you, we invite you to come and join with us on the journey into all the wonderful things that God has in store for us along the way.
Core beliefs of Oasis Christian Fellowship:
~We are a full-gospel church.
~We believe in the Holy Trinity, One God in Three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
~We believe in salvation through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, turning away from sin and following Him.
~We believe that our lives are to be directed by learning and living biblical truths.
~We believe that the Holy Bible is the revelation of God, inerrant and infallible.
~We believe that the Church is the body of Christ, and is to be the visible expression of God in the earth.
What to expect when you visit Oasis – order of service, etc.:
While we endeavor in each service to be led of the Holy Spirit, there is a loose structure to most services: 10:30am Pre-service prayer, 11am Worship service which includes music (praising, singing, sometimes dancing), announcements and praise reports, offering, sermon, prayer, music and dismissal.
Most first Sundays are a chance to fellowship during our “dish to pass” event following service. Members are welcome to bring a dish to share, and everyone is welcome.
The fourth Sundays of the month are an opportunity for people to share a Scripture that has meaning to them, a testimony, a song, etc. The music at that service is led by the congregation with members and visitors encouraged to lead in a song that they want to sing. It is a more informal time of sharing together.
Periodically we share communion together, but there is not a set schedule.
Most services are from 11am-12:30pm, however there at times that a service will go longer. If you must leave prior to the end of service that is okay, just please slip out quietly.
Standing ministries/opportunities to get involved:
The beauty of a smaller congregation is that there are lots of opportunities to try out your spiritual gifting in service to the Lord and His people. In addition to our standing committees that you might serve on, there is a need for ministry to the children on an “as needed” basis during Sunday services, as well as cleaning the church before Sunday services, and other opportunities to serve.
We have a prayer service 2x/month, the 2nd and 4th Thursday from 5:30-6:30pm where we intercede as led by the Holy Spirit. Or if you see something that needs to be done, speak to someone in leadership and propose what you would like to do.
Sundays: 10:45am, Pre-service prayer, 11am-12:30pm Sunday worship service
Thursdays: 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month, 5:30-6:30pm Prayer service
How to join Oasis:
